Whether you are a taxpayer or applying for a PAN card, its mandatory to link your Aadhaar card with PAN. Recently Supreme court has made this mandatory for all and said to use Aadhaar card to file income tax as well as to apply for a new PAN card.
The deadline to link your Aadhar card with PAN has been extended till 31 December 2019. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) shared a notification of deadline extension earlier, the deadline was September 30.
So if you have not linked your Aadhaar and PAN then you have only two months to do so. And it isn’t a complex job, it can be done easily. Earlier we talked about linking Aadhar card with Voter ID, and today we will help you to link Aadhaar with PAN.
You can easily link your PAN Card to Aadhaar Card online. You can do it two ways –
1. Login to income tax portal
2. Without login the portal.
5 Steps to link PAN card to Aadhaar card by login income tax portal
Step 1: Login or register yourself at the income tax e filing portal.
Step 2: When you log in, will be able to see a popup to link your PAN card with Aadhaar card, if not then don’t worry. Go to the “Profile setting” tab placed on the top bar named and there you can see the option “Link Aadhaar” click on it.
Step 3: A box will appear with the details including name, date of birth and gender etc which you have filled while registering to the e-Filing portal. Verify your details, and if any changes required please do as per your Aadhaar card.
Step 4: Once done, provide your Aadhaar number and captcha code and click on the “Link now” button.
Step 5: Once submitted a pop-up message will confirm your submission.
2 steps to Link PAN card to Aadhaar card without login to income tax portal
Yes, it just two steps, and that can be done because income tax e filing portal and UIDAI don’t want to trouble citizens.
Step 1: Visit Incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in website and check the option on the left pane mentioned “Link Aadhaar”. Click on it and you will get a form.
Steps 2: in the second step, provide the required details including your PAN, Aadhaar no, name and enter captcha code. Then click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.
Once the income tax portal verifies your details with UIDAI it will share confirmation of linking both cards. And in case there is any mistake in the name mentioned on Aadhaar and PAN, then you will get an OTP to verify the same.
In another case, if there are major mismatch then linking with fail and you will get a notification to change update the details.
How to link Aadhaar card with pan card through SMS?
Don’t want to visit the portal and follow the steps, no worry you can do it by sending a simple SMS. To do this, you need to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number. Type in the following message –
UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar card number><Space><10 digit PAN number>
How to link Link PAN Card to Aadhaar Card offline?
Though technology has made it easy for users to link PAN and Aadhaar card, still Govt understands that not everyone prefers to go online or send a message thus you can also do it offline.
You can link both by filling up an Annexure-I form. Visit the nearest centre of PAN service provider, NSDL or UTIITSL. Get the form ‘Annexure-I’ and please carry the required documents including a copy of PAN card and Aadhaar card.
Online services are free, but when you visit a centre to link Aadhaar with PAN, a prescribed fee will be charged. Charges can vary depending on linking, correction in PAN or Aadhaar details.
In case of any major mismatch in Aadhaar and PAN data then biometric authentication is compulsory.
It is advisable to please correct your Aadhaar and PAN data before proceeding to link both. This will be easy and hassle free as well.
